My name is Joel Griffin, I am the founder and owner of Gauntlet CrossFit and IfItFitsMe.com. I am often asked about my specific nutrition, training, and and overall daily regimen, so I thought I would share with you what a day in my life looks like.

This blog post will be Part 2 of a look at a typical day of mine with all of the specific foods, supplements, and products I use. So sit back and enjoy the conclusion of my daily journey…..

3:45PM – Head back to the gym to coach evening classes.

4:30PM – I coach class at Gauntlet CrossFit.

5:30PM – I coach class at Gauntlet CrossFit.

6:00PM – Evening protein bar time! Over the years I have tried a lot of protein bars, but once I find one that is worth its weight in gold, I keep it close at hand. I like having having protein bars around because they make a great grab and go options to get your protein in while you’re on the go or travelling.

The biggest issue most people face when travelling and trying to hit their macros is getting in enough protein. So keeping these around is an absolute must for someone with a busy schedule.

Here is a list of the protein bars I regularly eat:

 – RXBAR Whole Food Protein Bar (Peanut Butter, Chocolate Sea Salt, and Mint Chocolate are my favorite)

 – Oh Yeah! One Bar – Birthday Cake (YES! This tastes just like birthday cake, it is a real treat!)

 – Quest Nutrition Protein Bars (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, S’mores, and Mint Chocolate Chunk are my favorites)

6:30PM – I coach class at Gauntlet CrossFit.

7:45PM – Time to shut down the gym and head back home.

8:15PM – The dinner bell is ringing and I’m pretty darn hungry. Just like lunch, my dinner generally looks the same each night. But I still crave it every single night because it is so damn good! My dinner is a spinach, ground turkey, sweet potato taco salad.

– 7 ounces of taco seasoned 99% lean ground turkey

 – 120 grams of organic sweet potatoes

 – 65 grams of organic baby spinach

 – 30 grams of light sour cream

 – 60 grams of organic medium salsa

 – 30 grams of reduced fat 2% Mexican cheese blend

Put the turkey, sweet potato, and cheese in a bowl. Mix it up and microwave. Then add the rest of the fixings and stir it all up. Enjoy your nutrient dense and super filling dinner.

Some days I will also program in a dessert piece for after dinner. I have a few go to desserts that are light and delicious. Here is a list of my favorite dessert pieces:

 – Halo Top Creamery Protein Ice Cream (All flavors are pure heaven!)

 – Enlightened Ice Cream Bars and Pints (Frozen Hot Cocoa and Sea Salt Caramel are the bomb dot com)

 – Outshine Simply Yogurt Bars

 – Arctic Zero Fit Frozen Desserts (Chunky Cookie Dough is my favorite)

9:00PM – It is now time to climb in bed for a solid night sleep. Some of you may say this is early, but proper sleep is possibly the most important element for a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Getting 7-9 hour of sleep each night can be the difference between having too much cortisol (stress hormone that promotes weight gain in the belly) and achieving your goal physique. Sleep alone can and will make or break your health and fitness goals.

Because of how important sleep is, I have a nightly ritual. I take a small collection of very important supplements that not only aid in naturally falling and staying asleep, but they also help kickstart the systems in my body that regulate the hormones responsible for healing, growth, and fat burning.

Here are the supplements I take every night at bed time:

 – 3mg of melatonin

 – 100mg of 5-HTP

 – 500mg of Choline

I recently also purchased a new mattress because my “support” needs have changed over the years. My old pillow top spring mattress just had to go.

I found my back and shoulders were achy in the morning because it was just to soft and I would sink in places that should be supported. I made the leap to purchase a memory foam mattress online without testing it because it is SOOOOOOOOO much cheaper than buying in store.

I did a lot of extensive research before purchasing and this is what I ended up purchasing.

 – Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress

 – ExceptionalSheets – Extra Plush Bamboo Top Fitted Mattress Pad

 – SLEEP TITE 5-Sided Cooling Mattress Protector

And let me tell you, I’ve never slept better in my life! This amazing combo of plush, supported, cooling comfort has me in a deep coma of lucid dreams every night of the week. I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on every day like it was my last. I recommend taking a look at your sleeping environment and routine as the first step to living a happy and healthy lifestyle. Check out this blog post to learn more about the importance of sleep.
